In October 2018, Chinese electronics company Xiaomi commissioned Rob to produce designs for its new Mi Mix 3 Special Palace Edition smartphone.
In partnership with The Palace Museum Beijing – the largest museum of ancient Chinese culture and art – and design company The Promise, the smartphone was launched at the historic palace complex, with the first set selling out in moments.
Adorning the ceramic casing, phone cover and all the packaging, Rob’s design featured the Qilin, a Chinese mythical creature on colours inspired by glazes popular in Ming dynasty ceramics.
