A Pheonix Is In Order

A Pheonix is in Order

Isolation really is a rollercoaster. The weather is great and it’s nice to be in one place for more than a few days. A lot of artist dream of time and space to get on with our practice without interruption. But that’s not this. Homeschooling puts a stop on any time to think, concerns about health for  family and friends brings anxiety and watching or listening to the news is bringing massive concern. If Italy is anything to go by we are in for a tough few weeks.

Artists use symbolism to bring levels of meaning to our work so today I thought we could all do with creating our own pheonix bird. The pheonix, fenghuang in China or simurgh in the Zoroastrian tradition have all represented similar  things. Renewal, rebirth and the beginning of a new life. The rising of the phoenix has symbolises a person or community  that has gone through difficult times, but has resurrected and survived.

It feels like we need this at the moment.

Exercise

  1. Find an image online or use mine or the others in the gallery as a starting point and create your version of it. You don’t have to copy it exactly just use it as inspiration. You can add in your own background  to make it more personal or just use colours to give it some life.
  2. If you find that hard then you can download my drawing and colour it in. It should print out on an A4 piece of paper.(https://www.robpepper.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/rob-pepper-pheonix-colour.pdf)

Please send through your versions I love seeing them.
