Birds of China

Birds of China is a celebration of life; a riot of colour and a moment to reflect on the beauty of the world we live in and to remember the responsibility we have to the environment.

The tree works as a framework, adorned with a multitude of birds from all over the country, including red tailed kites, cockatoos, herons, cranes, hoopees, kingfishers, ducks and cockerals.

The composition of the tree references old Chinese masters such as Zhu Da and Qi Baishi, following in the long tradition of Chinese landscape painting.

I want this piece to be an absolute celebration, a piece to bring joy, life and a smile to your face. However there is a shadow side and that is one of warning and fragility. We are all quick to praise the beauty of the world but it’s essential that we take care of it too – to watch our actions and make sure that we try to leave the planet in a better way than we found it.
